Use this site as a guide to completing your collaborative research project. Before beginning, view this brief video on digital literacy to get a glimpse of just how important learning, understanding, and utilizing this form of writing and communication is becoming. In addition, read this article as an introductory to some of the technology you will be using for this project and to gain a better understanding of how and why its use is significant.
Every class should complete the assignments for Week 1 by next Monday, the 26th!!--------
Now that we're done with the first week, work on the Week 2 assignments (found at the bottom of the class blog lists), which are due on Monday, December 3rd!!!
In order to complete the paper by the deadlines (April 17th for the rough draft and April 24th for the final draft), work on the following items in a timely manner with your group members:
1. Every student needs to form their own blog at Blogger. However, you want to first gain some perspective into the pedagogical practices of using blogs in the classroom so you will understand the implications of writing in this unique form.
At least three times a week, post ideas for paper development and content. Also, diligently read and respond to your group members' ideas, and use your blog postings as a place to collaborate, discuss, and agree on supporting points.
2. To aid in your research, every blog needs to have a news aggregate-use Google Reader-to stay updated on current information regarding your chosen topic. Begin by looking at a page giving some background information on the topic.
Select at least ten news sources to receive continous, updated articles from and read, analyze, and post synthesis pieces on your blog concerning some of the more promising finds that you may want to use in your paper. By posting the articles and your ruminations on them, you will allow your group members to weigh the validity of both your chosen source and your reflections and respond to these on a regular basis. You will be able to give the same level of feedback for your groups' articles, and thus, an ongoing, collaborative dialgoue will ensue as to what the content of your paper will be.
3. Check out Wikipedia to become familiar with the site, and carefully read about the formatting, expectations, and requirements of posting writing on wikipedia by looking at a similar class project that is being used at Purdue University. To peruse a few other group class projects, look at this wiki.
Now the real writing begins! Each group will be given time in class (and of course you can always discuss issues on your blogs) to begin writing, rewriting, revising, and collaboratively posting your research paper onto your wiki. Just one account will be created per group, and make sure you give it a catchy title. On the day the final draft is due, each group will present their "paper" to the entire class and give a brief presentation. Each project will be graded according to the following rubric.
